Journal Update 17th March 2004 / Hiroshima
It is a beautiful spring night in Hiroshima. We are in an internet cafe on the 6th floor of a high-rise
building drinking a frothy blue Slush Puppy.
We have travelled about 600 miles today across the country by Shikansen (bullet train) from a small town
up in the mountains of Hida called Takayama, which is a really ancient traditional Japanese place.
The train travels so fast (about 150 miles an hour) Mt. Fuji passed us by in the blink of an eye.
Got some great pictures so far but the photos will never do this place justice!
Tomorrow plan to see the peace park and travel to Kyoto for some serious Geisha spotting.
Journal Update 20th March 2004 / Kyoto, Japan
It's a beautiful spring day in Kyoto and the cherry blossom is on the trees (which the Japanese go mad for).
We are staying in a classic Japanese style Ryokan in the centre of Kyoto with a waterfall flowing outside our room.

We decided to blow the deposit for a house on a grand world tour through 2004. We booked
through STA travel and put together a brief itinerary including the Far East, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
As it turned out we experienced China, Bali, Fiji and many more places in between.
We decided to end the trip with a wedding in Las Vegas (which was very memorable!)
As a wedding present my brother put together an on-line travel blog for us which was a great tool for documenting
our journey. This experience truly changed our lives and we encountered many fantastic people through out the world.
I hope you enjoy reading some highlights of our journal!

Cherry Trees, Kyoto, Japan
It is just like the classic Bond movie with kimono clad ladies scurrying around and very sinister looking
Japanese men with very young ladies. It is all very Zen like and peaceful. Last night we checked out Weller's bar
but were disappointed at the lack of Mods (well I was anyway, so found a dirty old losers bar instead and downed
a few hot Sakies. We spent yesterday cycling around Kyoto, through the park by the imperial palace. The day before,
we were in Hiroshima and visited the Peace Park were we saw the A-bombed dome. Hiroshima is quite a beautiful city
and not a bit like Basingstoke, as I had imagined. The trams are really cool. We are here for a couple of days
before we move on to Osaka, and then on to Singapore. The best bits of Japan so far have been the lovely, beautiful,
helpful people. Tokyo, for the neon madness, and the cool shops; Takayama, in the mountains, for the heated
toilet seats; Beer out of vending machines; The sushi and Muji's around every corner.
For Pat's benefit - Last night we ate what we think may have been eel roe, and various crab dishes finished off
with green tea ice cream. No McDonalds!
